Privacy policy

StayHood helps you pick a neighborhood for your city trip. We try to collect as little data as possible. Here is exactly what happens.
Who is responsible
StayHood. For privacy questions, contact test@test.nl.
What we collect
Your quiz answers are only kept in your own browser (local storage) so we can show your result. They are not stored on our server as a personal profile.
When you start the quiz, we anonymously record for which city and in which language. When you view a result, we anonymously record which neighborhood was the best match, in which language and when. When you click a hotel link, we record for which neighborhood, with which partner, on which part of the page and when. This has no name, email address, IP address or cookie attached, so we cannot link it to you. We use it to see which parts work.
For the short explanation with your result, we send your main topics (with how important you rated them), your budget choice, the neighborhood and the city to OpenAI, which writes a text from them. No personal data is sent.
Cookies and local storage
We do not place tracking or advertising cookies. For visitor statistics we use Vercel Web Analytics. It works without cookies and measures anonymously and in aggregate (page visited, referring site, country, device and browser type). A visitor is recognized by a hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, and no data is kept that could be used to follow or recognize you across websites. There is one functional cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) that remembers your language choice, and local storage for your quiz answers. Both are needed for the site to work.
Hosting and other parties
To prevent abuse, we count how many requests come from the same address. For this we briefly keep a keyed hash derived from your IP address, never the address itself, and that counter disappears within a day.
The site runs on Vercel. Like any web server, Vercel technically processes your IP address in log files. The database is hosted by Neon in a data center in the European Union (Frankfurt). OpenAI processes the explanation text as described above.
Photos load directly from Unsplash and Wikimedia Commons, so your IP address may become visible to those parties when a page with photos is loaded.
Affiliate links
Hotel links to Booking.com and Expedia are affiliate links. If you book through such a link, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. When you click one, you leave our site and that party's privacy and cookie policy applies. They may place cookies to attribute the booking to us.
Legal basis and retention
We process the anonymous statistics based on our legitimate interest in keeping the site working and improving it. Because they contain no personal data, we keep them for as long as they are useful.
Your rights
You can ask for access to, correction or deletion of data about you, or object to processing. Because we hold no data that identifies you, there is often nothing to find, but feel free to contact us at test@test.nl. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in the Netherlands the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Changes
If we change something, for example by adding other measurement tools or cookies, we will update this policy and the date at the top.
